Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Mouzaki, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 461.876 km2. Mouzaki is situated in the central part of Karditsa regional unit, on the right bank of the Pineios river, at an altitude of 140 metres. It is 17 km south of Karditsa city, 33 km north of Trikala city and 235 km northwest of Athens.
